Film Market Access (FMA) is a consulting firm that specializes in the professional development of content producers. Film Market Access seeks to empower, connect and build capacity for content makers, clients and creative entrepreneurs at festivals and markets.

Film Market Access offers emerging talent such as producers, directors, and writers the chance to attend one of two prestigious film festivals; Cannes and/or Toronto.

Founded in 2006 by film programmer Kirk Cooper; Film Market Access has successfully brought over 200 emerging talents to the Festival de Cannes, as well as Marché du Film.  In 2009, FMA  began collaborating with the Creative Mind Group (CMG) and together launched their Toronto Film Program, a platform to bring emerging talent to the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Recently in 2015 FMA created a exclusive program for participants attending Hot Docs (The Documentary International Film Festival)

Film Market Access has developed the following partnerships over the years with Association for Transformation in Film and Television (ATFT), SASK Films, Weengushq Native School, National Film and Video Foundation – NFVF (South Africa), Quebecor, and relationships with Fox Searchlight, William Morris Endeavour (WME), Doe Eye Media, The Hollywood Reporter (THR) United Talent Agency, IM Global, GAP PR, and Raven Banner Entertainment.


IMG_0097Kirk Cooper’s involvement in the film industry began with the Black Film and Video Network, a stint that led to independent programming and publicity for several festivals, where he achieved success on numerous films selected for ReelWorld, Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), Montreal World Film Festival, Hot Docs, and CFC Worldwide Short Film Festival. With his work taking him to Cannes, L.A, and a network of contacts that extends to beyond North America to Europe, South Africa and the Caribbean successfully contributed to Film Market Access.

Kirk has served on several juries such as Victoria Film Festival, Toronto Arts Council – Media Arts, Planet in Focus Film Festival and Mosaic South Asian Film Festival.

With over a decade of experience working in the entertainment industry Kirk’s mission to assist emerging filmmakers, especially in the area of ethnic diversity, is to increase their visibility at festivals was the impetuous for creating FMA in 2006.
